Fair Wear
We are committed to improving the working conditions of the people who make the products we sell. That is why we are a leading member of Fair Wear, an organization that helps brands like ours achieve gradual improvements. Fair Wear encourages and supports us in working with our suppliers to ensure that the factories we use are safe and that workers benefit from fair working conditions. Fair Wear works with factories, other brands, and other industry stakeholders on practical and innovative measures so that, together, we can transform the apparel industry.
PET RECYCLING
Recycling is a key pillar of our sustainability strategy and helps minimize the environmental impact of manufacturing our products. We use materials containing 50%–100% recycled PET bottles. PET recycling offers a twofold benefit: it reduces waste and requires fewer natural resources to produce a finished backpack. This significantly reduces the unavoidable environmental impact.
BLUESIGN
The bluesign® system is based on minimizing environmental impact throughout the entire production process. All substances and raw materials used in manufacturing are tested before production begins. Company-wide, we currently source all our fabrics from bluesign® system partners—that is, from suppliers who continue to reduce their emissions into the air and water and have an environmental management system in place.
PFC-FREE WATERPROOFING
Since 2020, we have been using exclusively PFC-free water-repellent treatments to make our outer fabrics water-repellent. PFCs (per- and polyfluorinated chemicals), also known as PFAS (per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances), are a very large group of chemicals that do not occur naturally and are not biodegradable. Due to their water-repellent properties, these harmful chemicals are frequently used in the textile industry—particularly in outdoor products—and enter the environment through the air and water.
TRANSPARENCY
Because so many parties and processes are involved, the textile supply chain is very complex. Nevertheless, our goal is to understand where our products and materials come from and to be transparent about where we manufacture them.
